قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ
Truly the believers have succeeded.
The Believers · al-Mu'minun · سورة المؤمنون · 118 ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ
Those who are humble in their prayer.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ
And those who turn away from idle talk.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ
And those who give their charity.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ
And those who guard their private parts.
إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
Except with their wives or what their right hands possess, for then they are not blamed.
فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ
But whoever seeks beyond that—those are the transgressors.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ
And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenants.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
And those who are constant in their prayers.
أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ
Those are the inheritors.
الَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ الْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ
Who will inherit Paradise, dwelling in it forever.
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ سُلَالَةٍ مِنْ طِينٍ
Certainly We created man from an extract of clay.
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَاهُ نُطْفَةً فِي قَرَارٍ مَكِينٍ
Then We placed him as a drop in a secure resting place.
ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا النُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْمُضْغَةَ عِظَامًا فَكَسَوْنَا الْعِظَامَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنْشَأْنَاهُ خَلْقًا آخَرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ
Then We created the drop into a clinging clot, then We created the clot into a lump of flesh, then We created the lump into bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought him into being as another creation. So blessed is God, the best of creators.
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ
Then after that, you will surely die.
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ
Then on the Day of Resurrection, you will be raised.
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعَ طَرَائِقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ الْخَلْقِ غَافِلِينَ
We created above you seven pathways, and We were never heedless of creation.
وَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً بِقَدَرٍ فَأَسْكَنَّاهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍ بِهِ لَقَادِرُونَ
We sent down water from the sky in measured amount and lodged it in the earth—and We are surely able to take it away.
فَأَنْشَأْنَا لَكُمْ بِهِ جَنَّاتٍ مِنْ نَخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَابٍ لَكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَاكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ
With it We produced for you gardens of palms and grapevines, in which you have abundant fruits, and from which you eat.
وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ طُورِ سَيْنَاءَ تَنْبُتُ بِالدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِلْآكِلِينَ
And a tree that grows from Mount Sinai, producing oil and a condiment for those who eat.
وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِي الْأَنْعَامِ لَعِبْرَةً ۖ نُسْقِيكُمْ مِمَّا فِي بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَافِعُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ
Truly in livestock there is a lesson for you. We give you drink from what is in their bellies, and in them you have many benefits, and from them you eat.
وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى الْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ
And on them and on ships you are carried.
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
We sent Noah to his people, and he said, “O my people, worship God. You have no god other than Him. Will you not be mindful?”
فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مَا هَٰذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَأَنْزَلَ مَلَائِكَةً مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي آبَائِنَا الْأَوَّلِينَ
But the chiefs of his people who disbelieved said, “This is nothing but a man like you who wants to elevate himself above you. Had God willed, He would have sent down angels. We never heard of this among our earliest forefathers.
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ بِهِ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا بِهِ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
He is nothing but a man possessed by madness, so wait on him for a while.”
قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ
He said, “My Lord, help me, for they have denied me.”
فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ أَنِ اصْنَعِ الْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُ ۙ فَاسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُخَاطِبْنِي فِي الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ مُغْرَقُونَ
So We revealed to him, “Build the ark under Our watchful eyes and Our revelation. When Our command comes and the oven bursts with water, load into it two of every kind, a pair, and your family — except those among them against whom the word has already been passed. And do not plead with Me concerning those who have wronged. They will be drowned.
فَإِذَا اسْتَوَيْتَ أَنْتَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى الْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي نَجَّانَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ
And when you have settled, you and those with you, upon the ark, say, ‘Praise be to God, who saved us from the wrongdoing people.’
وَقُلْ رَبِّ أَنْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِينَ
And say, ‘My Lord, land me at a blessed landing, for You are the best of those who bring to land.’”
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ
Surely in that are signs, and surely We were testing.
ثُمَّ أَنْشَأْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا آخَرِينَ
Then We raised after them another generation.
فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِنْهُمْ أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
So We sent among them a messenger from themselves: “Worship God. You have no god other than Him. Will you not be mindful?”
وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِلِقَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَاهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا مَا هَٰذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ
And the chiefs of his people — those who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had given luxury in the life of this world — said, “This is nothing but a man like you. He eats from what you eat and drinks from what you drink.
وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُمْ بَشَرًا مِثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَخَاسِرُونَ
And if you obey a man like yourselves, you will surely be losers.
أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنْتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَنَّكُمْ مُخْرَجُونَ
Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones, you will be brought out?
هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ
Far-fetched, far-fetched is what you are promised!
إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ
There is nothing but our life of this world — we die and we live — and we will never be resurrected.
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ افْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
He is nothing but a man who has fabricated a lie against God, and we will never believe him.”
قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ
He said, “My Lord, help me, for they have denied me.”
قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَيُصْبِحُنَّ نَادِمِينَ
He said, “In a short while, they will surely be filled with regret.”
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ غُثَاءً ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ
So the blast seized them in justice, and We made them debris. So away with the wrongdoing people!
ثُمَّ أَنْشَأْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا آخَرِينَ
Then We raised after them other generations.
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ
No nation can advance its appointed time, nor can they delay it.
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَىٰ ۖ كُلَّ مَا جَاءَ أُمَّةً رَسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِقَوْمٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time a nation’s messenger came to them, they denied him. So We made them follow one another and made them cautionary tales. So away with a people who do not believe!
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَارُونَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ
Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and a clear authority.
إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا عَالِينَ
To Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they were arrogant, and they were a haughty people.
فَقَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَابِدُونَ
They said, “Should we believe two men like ourselves while their people are servants to us?”
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا مِنَ الْمُهْلَكِينَ
So they denied them both and were among those destroyed.
وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ
And We gave Moses the Scripture, so that they might be guided.
وَجَعَلْنَا ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُ آيَةً وَآوَيْنَاهُمَا إِلَىٰ رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَعِينٍ
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and We sheltered them on a high ground with a resting place and flowing water.
يَا أَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوا مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحًا ۖ إِنِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ
O messengers, eat of the good things and do righteous deeds. Truly, I am All-Knowing of what you do.
وَإِنَّ هَٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاتَّقُونِ
This community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so be mindful of Me.
فَتَقَطَّعُوا أَمْرَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ زُبُرًا ۖ كُلُّ حِزْبٍ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ
But they tore their affair among themselves into factions, each party rejoicing in what they have.
فَذَرْهُمْ فِي غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ
So leave them in their flood of ignorance until a time.
أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ
Do they think that the wealth and children We provide them with.
نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ ۚ بَلْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
We are hastening for them in good things? No, they do not perceive.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ
Surely those who are, out of awe of their Lord, apprehensive.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ
And those who believe in the verses of their Lord.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا يُشْرِكُونَ
And those who do not associate partners with their Lord.
وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَ
And those who give what they give while their hearts tremble that they are returning to their Lord.
أُولَٰئِكَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَابِقُونَ
It is they who hasten in good deeds, and they are foremost in them.
وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۖ وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَابٌ يَنْطِقُ بِالْحَقِّ ۚ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity. With Us is a record that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged.
بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فِي غَمْرَةٍ مِنْ هَٰذَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْمَالٌ مِنْ دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عَامِلُونَ
But their hearts are in a flood of heedlessness toward this, and they have deeds besides that which they continue to do.
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِمْ بِالْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْأَرُونَ
Until, when We seize their affluent ones with punishment, at once they cry out.
لَا تَجْأَرُوا الْيَوْمَ ۖ إِنَّكُمْ مِنَّا لَا تُنْصَرُونَ
Do not cry out today. You will not be helped against Us.
قَدْ كَانَتْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ عَلَىٰ أَعْقَابِكُمْ تَنْكِصُونَ
My verses were recited to you, but you used to turn back on your heels.
مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِ سَامِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ
Arrogant toward it, babbling by night, talking nonsense.
أَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا الْقَوْلَ أَمْ جَاءَهُمْ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِ آبَاءَهُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
Have they not reflected on the Word, or has there come to them what did not come to their forefathers?
أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُ مُنْكِرُونَ
Or do they not recognize their messenger, so they reject him?
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِهِ جِنَّةٌ ۚ بَلْ جَاءَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَارِهُونَ
Or do they say, “He is possessed”? No, he brought them the truth, but most of them despise the truth.
وَلَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ۚ بَلْ أَتَيْنَاهُمْ بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِمْ مُعْرِضُونَ
If the truth had followed their desires, the heavens and the earth and everyone in them would have been ruined. Rather, We brought them their reminder, yet they turn away from their reminder.
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ
Or do you ask them for a payment? Your Lord’s provision is better, and He is the Best of Providers.
وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ
You are surely calling them to a straight path.
وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ عَنِ الصِّرَاطِ لَنَاكِبُونَ
But those who do not believe in the Hereafter are truly deviating from the path.
وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَاهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِمْ مِنْ ضُرٍّ لَلَجُّوا فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
Even if We had mercy on them and removed the hardship upon them, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly.
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
We had already seized them with punishment, yet they did not humble themselves before their Lord, nor did they plead.
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ
Until, when We open upon them a gate of severe punishment, at once they are in utter despair within it.
وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَنْشَأَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَا تَشْكُرُونَ
He is the One who produced for you hearing, sight, and hearts. How little you give thanks.
وَهُوَ الَّذِي ذَرَأَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ
He is the One who spread you across the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَلَهُ اخْتِلَافُ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
He is the One who gives life and causes death, and to Him belongs the alternation of night and day. Will you not reason?
بَلْ قَالُوا مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ الْأَوَّلُونَ
Rather, they said the same as the ancients said.
قَالُوا أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
They said, “When we have died and become dust and bones, will we truly be resurrected?
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَآبَاؤُنَا هَٰذَا مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
We were promised this, we and our fathers, before. This is nothing but tales of the ancients.”
قُلْ لِمَنِ الْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
Say, “To whom belongs the earth and everyone in it, if you know?”
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
They will say, “To God.” Say, “Will you not then remember?”
قُلْ مَنْ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ
Say, “Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne?”
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
They will say, “To God.” Say, “Will you not then be mindful?”
قُلْ مَنْ بِيَدِهِ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
Say, “In whose hand is the dominion of all things, and He grants protection while none can be protected against Him, if you know?”
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسْحَرُونَ
They will say, “To God.” Say, “Then how are you deluded?”
بَلْ أَتَيْنَاهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ
Rather, We brought them the truth, and they are surely liars.
مَا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ ۚ إِذًا لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَٰهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
God has not taken any offspring, nor has there been any god alongside Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what he created, and some of them would have overpowered others. Glory be to God, far above what they describe.
عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَتَعَالَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
Knower of the unseen and the seen, exalted is He above what they associate with Him.
قُلْ رَبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّي مَا يُوعَدُونَ
Say, “My Lord, if You show me what they are promised.
رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِي فِي الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ
My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people.”
وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَادِرُونَ
And We are certainly able to show you what We promise them.
ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ السَّيِّئَةَ ۚ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ
Repel evil with what is best. We know best what they describe.
وَقُلْ رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ
And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the promptings of the devils.
وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ
And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, from their presence.”
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ
Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, “My Lord, send me back.
لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ ۚ كَلَّا ۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَائِلُهَا ۖ وَمِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ
So that I may do good in what I left behind.” No! It is merely a word he utters. And behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَلَا أَنْسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
When the Horn is blown, there will be no kinship between them that Day, nor will they ask about one another.
فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
Those whose scales are heavy—they are the successful.
وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ فِي جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدُونَ
And those whose scales are light—they are the ones who lost themselves, in Hell abiding forever.
تَلْفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ النَّارُ وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَالِحُونَ
The Fire will scorch their faces, and they will be grimacing in it.
أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ
“Were My verses not recited to you, and you kept denying them?”
قَالُوا رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْمًا ضَالِّينَ
They will say, “Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray.
رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَالِمُونَ
Our Lord, bring us out of it. If we return, then truly we are wrongdoers.”
قَالَ اخْسَئُوا فِيهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ
He will say, “Be despised in it, and do not speak to Me.
إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِنْ عِبَادِي يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
There was a group of My servants who used to say, ‘Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy on us, and You are the Best of the Merciful.’
فَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا حَتَّىٰ أَنْسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِي وَكُنْتُمْ مِنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ
But you took them in mockery until they made you forget My remembrance, and you used to laugh at them.
إِنِّي جَزَيْتُهُمُ الْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ
Today I have recompensed them for their patience—they are the triumphant.”
قَالَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ
He will say, “How many years did you remain on earth?”
قَالُوا لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَاسْأَلِ الْعَادِّينَ
They will say, “We remained a day or part of a day, so ask those who keep count.”
قَالَ إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۖ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
He will say, “You remained only a little, if only you had known.
أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ
Did you think that We created you in vain and that you would not be returned to Us?”
فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ
Exalted is God, the True King. There is no god but Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.
وَمَنْ يَدْعُ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ لَا بُرْهَانَ لَهُ بِهِ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ لَا يُفْلِحُ الْكَافِرُونَ
Whoever calls upon another god alongside God—he has no proof of it—his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely the disbelievers will not succeed.
وَقُلْ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
And say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the Best of the Merciful.”
