1All praise belongs to God, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and to Him belongs all praise in the Hereafter. He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware.
2He knows what penetrates into the earth and what comes out of it, what descends from the sky and what ascends into it. He is the Most Merciful, the All-Forgiving.
3Those who disbelieved said, “The Hour will not come upon us.” Say, “Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come upon you — the Knower of the unseen. Not an atom’s weight in the heavens or on the earth escapes Him, nor anything smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear record.”
4So that He may reward those who believed and did righteous deeds. For them is forgiveness and a generous provision.
5But those who strove against Our verses, seeking to undermine them — for them is a punishment of painful torment.
6Those given knowledge see that what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, and it guides to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.
7Those who disbelieved said, “Shall we point you to a man who tells you that when you have been utterly torn to pieces, you will be in a new creation?
8Has he fabricated a lie against God, or is there madness in him?” Rather, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are in the punishment and the far-gone error.
9Have they not looked at what is before them and behind them of the sky and the earth? If We willed, We could cause the earth to swallow them or drop fragments of the sky upon them. Surely in that is a sign for every servant who turns back to God.
10We certainly granted David favor from Us: “O mountains, echo praises with him, and the birds as well.” And We made iron soft for him.
11“Fashion full coats of armor and measure the links precisely.” And do righteous deeds. Truly I am All-Seeing of what you do.
12And to Solomon We subjected the wind — its morning course was a month’s journey and its evening course was a month’s journey. We made a spring of molten copper flow for him. And among the jinn were those who worked before him by his Lord’s permission, and whoever of them deviated from Our command, We made him taste the punishment of the Blaze.
13They made for him whatever he wished of sanctuaries, statues, basins like reservoirs, and firmly set cauldrons. “Work in gratitude, O family of David.” Yet few of My servants are truly grateful.
14When We decreed death upon him, nothing alerted them to his death except a creature of the earth eating away at his staff. So when he collapsed, the jinn realized that had they known the unseen, they would not have remained in the humiliating punishment.
15Truly, there was a sign for Sheba in their homeland: two gardens, one to the right and one to the left. “Eat from your Lord’s provision and give thanks to Him. A good land and a Forgiving Lord.”
16But they turned away, so We sent against them the flood of the dam and replaced their two gardens with two gardens bearing bitter fruit, tamarisk, and a few lote trees.
17That is how We repaid them for their ingratitude. Do We ever repay anyone but the ungrateful?
18We placed between them and the towns We had blessed visible towns, and We measured out the journey between them. “Travel through them by night and day in safety.”
19But they said, “Our Lord, lengthen the distances between our journeys.” They wronged themselves, so We made them tales and tore them to utter shreds. Surely in that are signs for everyone who is patient and grateful.
20Iblis certainly proved his assumption about them true, and they followed him—all except a group of the believers.
21Yet he had no authority over them, except that We might distinguish those who believe in the Hereafter from those who are in doubt about it. Your Lord is Guardian over all things.
22Say, “Call upon those you claimed besides God. They do not possess an atom’s weight in the heavens or on earth, nor do they have any share in either, nor does He have any supporter among them.”
23Intercession does not benefit before Him except for those He permits. Until, when terror is lifted from their hearts, they say, “What did your Lord say?” They say, “The truth.” He is the Most High, the Most Great.
24Say, “Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth?” Say, “God. And surely either we or you are upon guidance or in clear misguidance.”
25Say, “You will not be asked about our sins, nor will we be asked about what you do.”
26Say, “Our Lord will gather us together, then He will judge between us in truth. He is the Judge, the All-Knowing.”
27Say, “Show me those you have attached to Him as partners.” No! Rather, He is God, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
28We have not sent you except to all of humanity as a bearer of good news and a warner, but most people do not know.
29They say, “When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?”
30Say, “You have an appointment on a Day you cannot delay by a single hour, nor advance.”
31Those who disbelieved said, “We will never believe in this Quran, nor in what came before it.” If only you could see when the wrongdoers are made to stand before their Lord, hurling words back at one another. Those who were oppressed say to those who were arrogant, “Had it not been for you, we would have been believers.”
32Those who were arrogant say to those who were oppressed, “Did we turn you away from guidance after it came to you? No, you were criminals.”
33Those who were oppressed say to those who were arrogant, “Rather, it was your scheming by night and day, when you commanded us to disbelieve in God and set up rivals to Him.” They conceal their regret when they see the punishment. We place shackles around the necks of those who disbelieved. Are they repaid for anything but what they used to do?
34Never did We send a warner to any town without its affluent ones saying, “We disbelieve in what you have been sent with.”
35They said, “We have more wealth and children, and we will not be punished.”
36Say, “Truly, my Lord extends provision to whom He wills and restricts it, but most people do not know.”
37It is not your wealth or your children that bring you closer to Us, but whoever believes and does good — for them is a multiplied recompense for what they did, and they will be secure in the lofty chambers.
38Those who strive against Our verses, seeking to undermine them — they will be brought into the punishment.
39Say, “Truly, my Lord extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it for him. Whatever you spend, He will replace it. He is the Best of Providers.”
40On the Day He gathers them all together, then says to the angels, “Was it you these people used to worship?”
41They say, “Glory be to You! You are our Protector, not them. Rather, they used to worship the jinn — most of them believed in them.”
42So today none of you holds any power to benefit or harm another. We say to those who wronged, “Taste the punishment of the Fire that you used to deny.”
43When Our clear verses are recited to them, they say, “This is nothing but a man who wants to turn you away from what your fathers used to worship.” They say, “This is nothing but a fabricated lie.” And those who disbelieved say of the truth when it comes to them, “This is nothing but plain sorcery.”
44We gave them no scriptures to study, and We sent them no warner before you.
45Those before them denied, and these have not reached a tenth of what We gave them. They denied My messengers — so how was My reproach?
46Say, “I advise you of one thing only: that you stand before God, in pairs and alone, then reflect. Your companion has no madness in him. He is only a warner to you before a severe punishment.”
47Say, “Whatever payment I may have asked of you, it is yours. My payment comes only from God, and He is Witness over all things.”
48Say, “Truly, my Lord hurls the truth — the Knower of all that is unseen.”
49Say, “The truth has come, and falsehood can neither originate nor restore.”
50Say, “If I stray, I stray only against my own soul. And if I am guided, it is by what my Lord reveals to me. He is All-Hearing, Ever Near.”
51If you could see when they are stricken with terror — no escape — and they are seized from a place nearby!
52They will say, “We believe in it!” But how can they reach it from so far away?
53They had already rejected it before, casting at the unseen from a distant place.
54A barrier is placed between them and what they desire, just as was done with their kind before them. They were in grave doubt.
