In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

حم

Ha Mim.

The revelation of the Book is from God, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for an appointed term. Yet those who disbelieve turn away from what they are warned of.

Say, “Have you considered what you call upon besides God? Show me what they have created of the earth. Or do they have a share in the heavens? Bring me a scripture before this or a remnant of knowledge, if you are truthful.”

Who is more astray than one who calls upon, besides God, those who will not answer him until the Day of Resurrection, and who are oblivious of their prayers?

When people are gathered, they will be enemies to them and will deny their worship.

When Our verses are recited to them as clear proofs, those who disbelieve say of the truth when it comes to them, “This is obvious sorcery.”

Or do they say, “He fabricated it”? Say, “If I fabricated it, you could not protect me from God in the least. He knows best what you indulge in. He suffices as a witness between me and you. And He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”

Say, “I am no novelty among the messengers, and I do not know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow what is revealed to me, and I am nothing but a clear warner.”

Say, “Have you considered: if it is from God and you disbelieve in it, and a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed, while you are too arrogant? Truly, God does not guide the wrongdoing people.”

Those who disbelieve say of those who believe, “If it were any good, they would not have preceded us to it.” And since they are not guided by it, they will say, “This is an ancient fabrication.”

Before it was the Book of Moses, a guide and a mercy. And this is a confirming Book in an Arabic tongue, to warn those who do wrong and as good news for those who do good.

Surely those who say, “Our Lord is God,” then remain steadfast — no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.

Those are the people of Paradise, dwelling therein forever, as recompense for what they used to do.

We charged man to be good to his parents. His mother carried him in hardship and delivered him in hardship, and his bearing and weaning take thirty months. Until, when he reaches his full strength and reaches forty years, he says, “My Lord, inspire me to be grateful for Your blessing that You bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteous deeds that please You, and set right for me my offspring. I have turned to You in repentance, and I am among those who submit.”

Those are the ones from whom We accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, among the people of the Garden — a true promise they were promised.

But the one who says to his parents, “Ugh to you both! Do you promise me that I will be brought out when generations have already passed before me?” — while they both plead to God for help — “Woe to you! Believe! Surely God’s promise is true.” Yet he says, “This is nothing but tales of the ancients.”

Those are the ones against whom the word has come due, among nations of jinn and humans that have already passed before them. They were losers.

For each there are ranks according to what they did, so that He may repay them in full for their deeds, and they will not be wronged.

On the Day those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire: “You squandered your good things in your worldly life and enjoyed them. So today you are repaid with the punishment of humiliation for your arrogance on earth without right, and for your defiance.”

Mention the brother of Aad, when he warned his people at the sand dunes — and warners had already passed before him and after him — “Worship none but God. I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.”

They said, “Have you come to turn us away from our gods? Then bring us what you promise us, if you are truthful.”

He said, “The knowledge is only with God. I convey to you what I have been sent with, but I see you are a people acting in ignorance.”

When they saw it as a cloud advancing toward their valleys, they said, “This is a cloud bringing us rain.” No, it is what you sought to hasten — a wind carrying a painful punishment.

It destroys everything by its Lord’s command. By morning, nothing could be seen but their dwellings. That is how We repay the criminal people.

We had established them in what We have not established you in, and We gave them hearing and sight and hearts. Yet their hearing, their sight, and their hearts availed them nothing, since they used to reject God’s signs, and what they used to mock closed in on them.

We destroyed the towns around you, and We varied the verses so that they might turn back.

Why then did those they took as gods besides God, as a means of nearness, not help them? Instead, they vanished from them. That was their fabrication and what they used to invent.

When We directed a group of jinn toward you to listen to the Quran, and when they came into its presence, they said, “Be silent!” And when it was finished, they returned to their people as warners.

They said, “O our people, we have heard a Book sent down after Moses, confirming what came before it, guiding to the truth and to a straight path.

O our people, answer God’s caller and believe in him. He will forgive you some of your sins and protect you from a painful punishment.”

Whoever does not answer God’s caller cannot escape on earth, and he has no protectors besides Him. Those are in clear error.

Have they not seen that God, who created the heavens and the earth and was never wearied by their creation, is Capable of giving life to the dead? Yes indeed, He is Capable of all things.

On the Day those who disbelieved are brought before the Fire: “Is this not the truth?” They will say, “Yes, by our Lord!” He will say, “Then taste the punishment for what you used to deny.”

So be patient, as the messengers of firm resolve were patient, and do not seek to hasten it for them. On the Day they see what they are promised, it will be as though they had not lingered but an hour of a day. A proclamation. Will any be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient people?
