In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

Truly, We have granted you a clear victory.

So that God may forgive you what preceded of your sins and what followed, and complete His blessing upon you, and guide you to a straight path.

And so that God may grant you a mighty victory.

It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers so they would increase in faith upon their faith. To God belong the forces of the heavens and the earth, and God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

So that He may admit the believing men and believing women into gardens beneath which rivers flow, dwelling therein forever, and erase their misdeeds from them. That, with God, is a supreme triumph.

And so that He may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women, and the polytheist men and polytheist women — those who harbor evil assumptions about God. Upon them is the turn of evil. God is wrathful against them, has cursed them, and has prepared for them Hell — what a wretched destination!

To God belong the forces of the heavens and the earth, and God is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

Truly, We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of good news, and a warner.

So that you may believe in God and His Messenger, and support him, and honor him, and glorify Him morning and evening.

Surely those who pledge allegiance to you are only pledging allegiance to God — God’s hand is over their hands. Whoever breaks his pledge breaks it only against himself, and whoever fulfills what he has pledged to God, He will grant him a great reward.

Those desert Arabs who stayed behind will say to you, “Our wealth and our families kept us busy, so ask forgiveness for us.” They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say, “Who can avail you anything against God if He intends harm for you, or intends benefit for you?” Rather, God is fully Aware of what you do.

Rather, you assumed that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their families, and that was made appealing in your hearts, and you harbored evil assumptions, and you were a ruined people.

Whoever does not believe in God and His Messenger — We have prepared a blaze for the disbelievers.

To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills, and God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Those who stayed behind will say, when you set out toward spoils to take them, “Let us follow you.” They wish to change God’s word. Say, “You will not follow us. Thus God has said before.” Then they will say, “Rather, you are jealous of us.” Rather, they hardly understand at all.

Say to those desert Arabs who stayed behind, “You will be called against a people of great military might — you will fight them or they will submit. If you obey, God will give you a good reward, but if you turn away as you turned away before, He will punish you with a painful punishment.”

No blame falls on the blind, nor on the lame, nor on the sick. Whoever obeys God and His Messenger, He will admit him into gardens beneath which rivers flow, and whoever turns away, He will punish him with a painful punishment.

Truly God was pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with a near victory.

And abundant spoils for them to take. God is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

God promised you abundant spoils that you would take, and He hastened this one for you and held back people’s hands from you — so that it would be a sign for the believers and so He would guide you to a straight path.

And another you were not yet able to take — God has already encompassed them. God is over all things All-Powerful.

Had those who disbelieved fought you, they would have turned their backs in flight, then found neither protector nor helper.

Such is God’s way that has passed before, and you will never find any change in God’s way.

He is the One who held back their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Mecca, after He had given you victory over them. God is All-Seeing of what you do.

They are the ones who disbelieved and barred you from the Sacred Mosque, and prevented the sacrificial animals from reaching their place. Were it not for believing men and believing women whom you did not know — that you might trample them and guilt would befall you on their account unknowingly — so that God might admit into His mercy whom He wills. Had they been separate, We would have punished those among them who disbelieved with a painful punishment.

When those who disbelieved harbored in their hearts the zealotry—the zealotry of ignorance—God sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and bound them to the word of righteousness, and they were most deserving of it and worthy of it. God is ever All-Knowing of all things.

God has truly fulfilled His Messenger’s vision in truth: you will surely enter the Sacred Mosque, if God wills, in security, with your heads shaved and hair trimmed, fearing nothing. He knew what you did not know, and He granted, before that, a near victory.

It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion. God suffices as a Witness.

Muhammad is God’s Messenger. Those with him are fierce against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing, prostrating, seeking God’s grace and pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their likeness in the Torah. And their likeness in the Gospel is like a plant that sends out its shoot, then strengthens it, then grows thick, then stands firm on its stalk, amazing the sowers—so that through them He may enrage the disbelievers. God has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness and a great reward.
