1O Prophet, why do you forbid what God has made lawful for you, seeking to please your wives? God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
2God has ordained for you the dissolution of your oaths. God is your Protector, and He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.
3When the Prophet confided something to one of his wives, and she disclosed it, and God made it known to him, he acknowledged part of it and overlooked part. Then when he told her about it, she said, “Who told you this?” He said, “The All-Knowing, the All-Aware told me.”
4If you two repent to God, your hearts have truly deviated. But if you band together against him, then God is his Protector, and Gabriel, and the righteous among the believers — and the angels, beyond that, are his supporters.
5Perhaps his Lord, if he divorces you, will give him in your place wives better than you — submitting, believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, fasting — previously married and virgins.
6O you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are angels, harsh and severe, who never disobey God in what He commands them and do what they are commanded.
7O you who disbelieve, make no excuses today. You are only repaid for what you used to do.
8O you who believe, repent to God with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove your misdeeds from you and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the Day when God will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will run before them and on their right. They will say, “Our Lord, perfect our light for us and forgive us. Truly, You are Capable of all things.”
9O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh with them. Their refuge is Hell — what a wretched destination!
10God sets an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants, yet they betrayed them, and the two availed them nothing against God. And it was said, “Enter the Fire with those who enter.”
11And God sets an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh, when she said, “My Lord, build for me a house near You in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the wrongdoing people.”
12And Mary, daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into it of Our spirit. She believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures, and she was among the devoutly obedient.
