إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ أَنْ أَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
We sent Noah to his people: “Warn your people before a painful punishment comes upon them.”

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ
He said, “O my people, I am a clear warner to you.
أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ
Worship God, be mindful of Him, and obey me.
يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَاءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
He will forgive you some of your sins and grant you respite until an appointed time. Truly, God’s appointed time, when it comes, cannot be delayed — if only you knew.”
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا
He said, “My Lord, I have called my people night and day.
فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا
But my calling only increased their flight.
وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَارًا
And every time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears, wrapped themselves in their garments, persisted, and grew ever more arrogant.
ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا
Then I called them openly.
ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْلَنْتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا
Then I proclaimed to them publicly and confided to them privately.
فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا
I said, ‘Seek your Lord’s forgiveness — He is ever Forgiving.
يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا
He will send the sky upon you in abundant rain.
وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَارًا
And supply you with wealth and children, and make for you gardens, and make for you rivers.
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا
What is wrong with you that you do not revere God’s majesty?
وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا
When He created you in stages?
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا
Do you not see how God created seven heavens in layers?
وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا
And placed the moon among them as a light, and made the sun a lamp?
وَاللَّهُ أَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا
God grew you from the earth like a plant.
ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا
Then He will return you to it and bring you out again.
وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا
God made the earth a spread for you.
لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا
So that you may travel its wide paths.’”
قَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
Noah said, “My Lord, they have disobeyed me and followed those whose wealth and children only increased them in loss.
وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا
They schemed a tremendous scheme.
وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا
And said, ‘Do not abandon your gods! Do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, nor Yauq, nor Nasr!’
وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَالًا
They have led many astray. So increase the wrongdoers in nothing but misguidance.”
مِمَّا خَطِيئَاتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا فَأُدْخِلُوا نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْصَارًا
Because of their sins they were drowned, then cast into a Fire, and they found no helpers for themselves besides God.
وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا
Noah said, “My Lord, do not leave upon the earth a single one of the disbelievers.
إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوا إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا
If You leave them, they will lead Your servants astray and will beget none but wicked disbelievers.
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا
My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house as a believer, and the believing men and believing women, and increase the wrongdoers in nothing but ruin.”
