1Prophet, always be mindful of Allah, and don't follow those who reject faith or pretend to believe. Allah is truly All-Knowing, Wise.
2Follow what your Lord reveals to you. Allah is fully aware of everything you do.
3Trust in Allah completely — He is enough to take care of everything.
4Allah didn't give any man two hearts inside their chest. He didn't make your wives, whom you say are like your mothers, your actual mothers. And He didn't make your adopted sons your real sons. These are just words you say with your mouths, but Allah speaks the truth, and He guides to the right way.
5Call adopted children by their real fathers' names — that's fairer in Allah's eyes. If you don't know who their fathers are, then they're your brothers in faith and your close friends. There's no blame on you for honest mistakes, only for what your hearts purposely intend. Allah is always Forgiving and Kind.
6The Prophet is closer to the believers than they are to themselves, and his wives are like mothers to them. But relatives have more rights over each other, according to Allah's Book, than other believers or those who migrated — unless you want to show kindness to your close friends. This is clearly written in Allah's Book.
7Remember when We took a strong promise from the prophets — from you, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary. We took a serious promise from all of them.
8So that Allah may question the truthful about their truthfulness. And He has prepared a painful punishment for those who reject faith.
9Believers, remember Allah's favor to you, when enemy armies came against you. Then We sent a strong wind and forces, you couldn't see. Allah saw clearly everything you did.
10They came at you from above and below. Your eyes grew wide with fear, your hearts jumped into your throats, and you began to think all kinds of thoughts about Allah.
11At that moment, the believers were tested and deeply shaken.
12And remember when the hypocrites and those with doubts in their hearts said, "Allah and His Messenger promised us nothing but lies!"
13And when a group among them said, "People of Yathrib, you can't stay here — go back home!" Another group asked the Prophet's permission, saying, "Our houses are unprotected," but their houses weren't unprotected. They only wanted to run away.
14If the enemy had entered the city from all sides and asked them to betray their faith, they would have done it without hesitation.
15Yet before this, they had promised Allah they would never turn their backs. And a promise made to Allah will surely be questioned.
16Say, "Running away won't help you escape death or being killed. Even if you do escape, you'll only enjoy life for a short while."
17Say, "Who can protect you from Allah, if He wants harm for you, or if He wants mercy for you?" They won't find any protector or helper besides Allah.
18Allah knows exactly those among you who hold others back and say to their friends, "Come, stay with us!" They hardly ever join the fight.
19They are selfish toward you. When danger comes, you see them staring at you, their eyes rolling like someone about to faint from fear of death. But when danger passes, they attack you with sharp tongues, greedy for any good they can get. These people never truly believed, so Allah made all their deeds worthless — and that's easy for Allah.
20They think the enemy armies haven't left. If those armies returned, these people would wish they were far away in the desert, asking about your news from a safe distance. Even if they stayed with you, they'd hardly fight at all.
21Certainly, in the Messenger of Allah, you have a beautiful example — for anyone who hopes in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah often.
22When the believers saw the enemy armies, they said, "This is exactly what Allah and His Messenger promised us. Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth." And it only made their faith stronger, and their hearts more peaceful.
23Among the believers are people who stayed true to the promise they made to Allah. Some of them have already given their lives, and some are still waiting — but they never changed their promise at all.
24Allah will reward the truthful ones for their truthfulness, and punish the hypocrites if He wishes, or accept their repentance. Allah is always forgiving, always merciful.
25And Allah turned back the disbelievers in their anger — they gained nothing good at all. Allah spared the believers from fighting. Allah is truly powerful, truly mighty.
26He brought down from their strongholds those People of the Book who supported the enemy, and He filled their hearts with fear. You killed some of them, and others you took captive.
27And He gave you their land, their homes, their wealth, and even lands you had never set foot on. Allah has power over everything.
28Prophet, say to your wives, "If you want this worldly life and its beauty, then come — I will give you a generous gift and kindly let you go."
29But if you want Allah, His Messenger, and the home of the Hereafter, then know that Allah has prepared a great reward for those of you who do good."
30Wives of the Prophet, if any of you commits a clear wrongdoing, her punishment will be doubled — that is easy for Allah.
31But whoever among you obeys Allah and His Messenger, and does good deeds, We will give her double the reward, and We have prepared for her a generous provision.
32Wives of the Prophet, you are not like other women. If you truly fear Allah, then don't speak too softly, or someone with sickness in his heart might get the wrong idea. Instead, speak in a good and proper way.
33Stay in your homes, and don't show yourselves off like people did in the earlier days of ignorance. Pray regularly, give charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah only wants to remove all impurity from you, people of the household, and to completely purify you.
34And always remember the verses of Allah and the wisdom that are recited in your homes. Allah is truly gentle and fully aware.
35Surely, the Muslim men and women, the believing men and women, the obedient men and women, the truthful men and women, the patient men and women, the humble men and women, the men and women who give charity, the men and women who fast, the men and women who guard their purity, and the men and women who remember Allah often — Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward.
36When Allah and His Messenger decide something, believing men and women don't have the choice to do things their own way. Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has clearly gone far astray.
37Remember when you said to the one Allah blessed, and you favored, "Keep your wife and fear Allah," while you hid inside yourself what Allah was about to reveal. You worried about what people would think — but Allah deserves your fear more. So when Zayd had fulfilled his desire for her, We married her to you, so believers wouldn't feel uneasy marrying the divorced wives of their adopted sons. And Allah's command always comes true.
38The Prophet shouldn't feel uneasy about what Allah has allowed for him. This is Allah's way with those who lived before — and Allah's command is always perfectly planned.
39Those who deliver Allah's messages, fear Him, and they don't fear anyone else but Allah. And Allah is enough to keep track of everything.
40Muhammad isn't the father of any of your men. But he is Allah's Messenger, and the seal of the prophets. And Allah knows everything.
41Believers, remember Allah often.
42And praise Him morning and evening.
43He is the One Who sends blessings upon you, and His angels pray for you, to bring you out of darkness into the light. And He is always kind to the believers.
44On the day they meet Him, their greeting will be "Peace!" And He has prepared for them a generous reward.
45Prophet, We sent you as a witness, a bringer of good news, and a warner.
46And as one who calls people to Allah by His permission, and as a shining lamp.
47Give the believers the good news, that they will receive great blessings from Allah.
48Don't listen to those who disbelieve or the hypocrites, and ignore their hurtful words. Trust in Allah — He is enough to take care of everything.
49Believers, if you marry believing women, but then divorce them before you've touched them, you don't need to count any waiting period for them. Instead, give them a gift, and let them go kindly.
50Prophet, We have made lawful for you your wives whose bridal gifts you've given, and those dependents whom Allah has given you, and the daughters of your uncles and aunts on your father's side, and the daughters of your uncles and aunts on your mother's side — those who migrated with you — and a believing woman who willingly offers herself to the Prophet, if the Prophet wishes to marry her. This privilege is only for you, not for other believers. We know exactly what rules We've set for them regarding their wives and dependents, so that you won't feel any difficulty. Allah is always forgiving and merciful.
51You may delay spending time with any of your wives as you wish, and you may bring close to you any of them as you wish. And if you want to be with one you've set aside for a while, that's fine too. This will make them happier, keep them from feeling sad, and let them all be content with whatever you give them. Allah knows what's in your hearts, and Allah is always knowing and patient.
52After this, you aren't allowed to marry other women, or exchange your wives for others, even if their beauty impresses you — except for your dependents. Allah carefully watches over everything.
53Believers, don't enter the Prophet's homes, unless you're invited for a meal. And don't arrive too early, waiting for the food to be ready. But when you're invited, enter; and once you've eaten, leave without lingering around chatting. This behavior bothers the Prophet, but he's shy to tell you. Allah, however, isn't shy about speaking the truth. And if you need to ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a curtain. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. You should never hurt Allah's Messenger, nor should you ever marry his wives after him. Doing that would be truly serious in Allah's sight.
54Whether you show something openly or hide it, Allah surely knows everything.
55There's no blame on the Prophet's wives if they're seen by their fathers, their sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their fellow women, or their dependents. But always be mindful of Allah. Allah sees everything clearly.
56Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. Believers, you too send blessings upon him, and greet him with respect.
57Those who hurt Allah and His Messenger — Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter, and He has prepared a humiliating punishment for them.
58And those who unfairly hurt believing men and women — for things they didn't do — they carry the heavy burden of a clear lie and sin.
59Prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers, to draw their cloaks around themselves. That way, they'll be recognized easily, and won't be bothered. Allah is always forgiving and kind.
60If the hypocrites, those with sickness in their hearts, and those who spread lies in the city don't stop, We will surely urge you against them. Then they won't stay near you for long.
61Cursed — they'll be caught wherever they're found, and killed harshly.
62This has always been Allah's way with those who lived before, and you'll never find any change in Allah's way.
63People ask you about the Hour. Say, "Only Allah knows it." And how do you know? The Hour might be very close.
64Allah has cursed those who disbelieve, and prepared for them a blazing fire.
65They'll stay there forever, never finding a protector or helper.
66On the day when their faces are turned over in the fire, they'll cry out, "If only we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!"
67They'll say, "Our Lord, we obeyed our leaders and our elders, but they led us away from the path.
68Our Lord, give them double punishment and curse them greatly."
69Believers, don't be like those who hurt Moses — then Allah cleared him of what they said. Moses was honored by Allah.
70Believers, be mindful of Allah, and always speak truthful words.
71He will make your actions good, and forgive your mistakes. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has truly achieved great success.
72We offered the trust to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains, but they refused to carry it, and were afraid of it. But the human being accepted it — he has always been unfair and ignorant.
73So Allah will punish hypocritical men and women, and men and women who worship others besides Him. And Allah will forgive believing men and women — Allah is always forgiving and kind.
