In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad.

A mention of your Lord’s mercy to His servant Zechariah.

When he called upon his Lord with a quiet call.

He said, “My Lord, my bones have grown feeble, and my head blazes with white hair, and never have I been, in calling upon You, my Lord, unblessed.

I fear my kinsmen after me, and my wife is barren, so grant me from Yourself an heir.

Who will inherit from me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing.”

“O Zechariah, We give you glad tidings of a boy whose name is John — We have not given this name to anyone before him.”

He said, “My Lord, how can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached extreme old age?”

He said, “So it will be. Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, and I created you before when you were nothing.’”

He said, “My Lord, give me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three nights, though sound in body.”

So he came out to his people from the sanctuary and signaled to them: “Glorify morning and evening.”

“O John, hold the Scripture with strength.” And We gave him wisdom as a child.

And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was God-conscious.

And dutiful to his parents, and he was not tyrannical or disobedient.

Peace be upon him the day he was born, the day he dies, and the day he is raised alive.

And mention in the Book Mary, when she withdrew from her family to an eastern place.

She placed a screen between herself and them. Then We sent to her Our Spirit, and he appeared to her as a well-formed man.

She said, “I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, if you are God-conscious.”

He said, “I am only your Lord’s messenger, to grant you a pure boy.”

She said, “How can I have a boy when no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?”

He said, “So it will be. Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me, and so that We may make him a sign for people and a mercy from Us.’ It is a matter already decreed.”

So she conceived him and withdrew with him to a distant place.

The labor pains drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, “O if only I had died before this and been a thing forgotten, utterly forgotten!”

He called out to her from beneath her, “Do not grieve. Your Lord has placed beneath you a stream.

And shake the trunk of the palm tree toward you — it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you.

So eat and drink and let your eye be comforted. And if you see any human, say, ‘I have vowed a fast to the Most Merciful, so I will not speak to anyone today.’”

Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, “O Mary, you have done something monstrous!

O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste.”

She pointed to him. They said, “How can we speak to one who is a child in the cradle?”

He said, “I am God’s servant. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.

He has made me blessed wherever I am, and He has charged me with prayer and charity as long as I live.

And dutiful to my mother — He has not made me overbearing or wretched.

Peace is upon me the day I was born, the day I die, and the day I am raised alive.”

That is Jesus, son of Mary — the word of truth about which they dispute.

It is not for God to take a son. Glory be to Him! When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, “Be,” and it is.

“Truly God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path.”

But the factions differed among themselves. So woe to those who disbelieved from the witnessing of a tremendous Day.

How well they will hear and see on the Day they come to Us! But today the wrongdoers are in clear error.

Warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter is decided — while they are in heedlessness and do not believe.

It is We who will inherit the earth and all who are upon it, and to Us they will be returned.

Mention in the Book Abraham. He was a man of truth, a prophet.

When he said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship what cannot hear, cannot see, and cannot benefit you at all?

O my father, there has come to me knowledge that did not come to you, so follow me and I will guide you to a straight path.

O my father, do not worship Satan. Truly Satan has been disobedient to the Most Merciful.

O my father, I fear that a punishment from the Most Merciful will touch you, and you will become an ally of Satan.”

He said, “Do you turn away from my gods, O Abraham? If you do not stop, I will surely stone you. Now leave me for a long time.”

He said, “Peace be upon you. I will ask my Lord to forgive you. He has been ever gracious to me.

I will withdraw from you and from what you call upon besides God, and I will call upon my Lord. Perhaps in calling upon my Lord I will not be unblessed.”

So when he withdrew from them and from what they worshiped besides God, We granted him Isaac and Jacob, and each We made a prophet.

We granted them of Our mercy, and We gave them a lofty tongue of truth.

Mention in the Book Moses. He was chosen, and he was a messenger, a prophet.

We called him from the right side of the Mount, and We drew him near in intimate conversation.

We granted him, out of Our mercy, his brother Aaron as a prophet.

Mention in the Book Ishmael. He was true to his promise, and he was a messenger, a prophet.

He used to command his family to pray and give charity, and he was pleasing to his Lord.

Mention in the Book Idris. He was a man of truth, a prophet.

We raised him to a lofty station.

Those are the ones God blessed among the prophets — from the descendants of Adam, from those We carried with Noah, from the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and from those We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell down in prostration, weeping.

Then successors came after them who neglected prayer and followed their desires. They will soon meet ruin.

Except those who repented, believed, and did good — those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged in the least.

Gardens of Eden that the Most Merciful has promised His servants in the unseen. His promise will surely be fulfilled.

They will hear no idle talk there — only peace. And they will have their provision there, morning and evening.

That is the Paradise We give as inheritance to those of Our servants who were righteous.

“We do not descend except by your Lord’s command. To Him belongs what is before us, what is behind us, and what is between. Your Lord is never forgetful.”

Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them — so worship Him and be steadfast in His worship. Do you know anyone equal to Him?

Man says, “When I have died, will I really be brought out alive?”

Does man not remember that We created him before, when he was nothing?

By your Lord, We will gather them and the devils, then We will bring them around Hell on their knees.

Then We will drag out from every sect the one most defiant toward the Most Merciful.

Then We know best who most deserves to burn in it.

There is none among you but will pass over it. That is upon your Lord a decree firmly decided.

Then We will save the righteous and leave the wrongdoers in it on their knees.

When Our verses are recited to them as clear proofs, those who disbelieved say to those who believed, “Which of the two groups is better in standing and finer in company?”

How many a generation We destroyed before them who were better in possessions and appearance!

Say, “Whoever is in misguidance, let the Most Merciful extend his time. Until, when they see what they are promised — whether the punishment or the Hour — they will know who is worse in position and weaker in forces.”

God increases in guidance those who are guided. And lasting good deeds are better with your Lord in reward and better in outcome.

Have you seen the one who disbelieved in Our verses and said, “I will surely be given wealth and children”?

Has he penetrated the unseen, or has he taken a covenant with the Most Merciful?

No! We will record what he says and extend for him the punishment extensively.

We will inherit from him what he speaks of, and he will come to Us alone.

They have taken gods besides God so that they might be a source of strength for them.

No! They will deny their worship and turn against them as adversaries.

Do you not see that We have sent the devils upon the disbelievers, inciting them relentlessly?

So do not be hasty against them. We are only counting for them a countdown.

The Day We gather the reverent to the Most Merciful as a delegation.

And We drive the criminals to Hell as a herd to water.

They will have no power of intercession — except whoever has taken a covenant with the Most Merciful.

They say, “The Most Merciful has taken a son.”

You have brought something monstrous!

The heavens nearly tear apart from it, and the earth splits open, and the mountains collapse in ruins.

That they attribute to the Most Merciful a son.

It is not befitting for the Most Merciful to take a son.

There is no one in the heavens and the earth but comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.

He has counted them and numbered them precisely.

And every one of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.

Truly, those who believed and did righteous deeds — the Most Merciful will grant them love.

We have made it easy in your tongue only so that you may give glad tidings with it to the righteous and warn with it a fiercely contentious people.

How many a generation We destroyed before them! Do you perceive any one of them, or hear from them even a whisper?
