The Reality · al-Haqqah · سورة الحاقة · 52 ayahs

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

The Inevitable Reality.

What is the Inevitable Reality?

And what could make you know what the Inevitable Reality is?

Thamud and Ad denied the Striking Calamity.

As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overwhelming blast.

And as for Ad, they were destroyed by a screaming, relentless wind.

He unleashed it upon them for seven nights and eight days without cease. You would have seen the people lying fallen like hollow trunks of palm trees.

Do you see any of them remaining?

Pharaoh came, and those before him, and the overturned cities, with sin.

They disobeyed their Lord’s messenger, so He seized them with a crushing grip.

When the waters surged, We carried you in the sailing vessel.

So that We might make it a reminder for you, and so that a retentive ear might retain it.

When the Horn is blown with a single blast.

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed with a single crushing.

On that Day the Event will come to pass.

And the sky will split apart, for on that Day it will be frail.

And the angels will be at its edges, and eight will bear your Lord’s throne above them on that Day.

On that Day you will be exposed — no secret of yours will stay hidden.

As for the one given his record in his right hand, he will say, “Here, read my record!

I knew I would meet my reckoning.”

So he will be in a pleasing life.

In a lofty garden.

Its fruits hanging near.

“Eat and drink with pleasure for what you sent ahead in days gone by.”

But as for the one given his record in his left hand, he will say, “If only I had never been given my record!

And had never known my reckoning!

If only it had been the end!

My wealth has not helped me at all.

My authority has perished from me.”

“Seize him and shackle him.

Then burn him in the Blaze.

Then insert him in a chain seventy cubits long.”

He never believed in God, the Great.

And never urged the feeding of the destitute.

So today he has no close friend here.

And no food except filthy discharge.

None eat it but the sinners.

I swear by what you see.

And what you do not see.

It is truly the word of a noble messenger.

It is not the word of a poet — how little you believe!

Nor the word of a soothsayer — how little you reflect!

A revelation from the Lord of all worlds.

Had he fabricated any sayings against Us.

We would have seized him by the right hand.

Then We would have severed his life-vein.

And none of you could have shielded him.

It is surely a reminder for the reverent.

And We know that among you are deniers.

And it will surely be a source of anguish for the disbelievers.

And it is certainly the truth of certainty.

So glorify the name of your Lord, the Great.
