The Enwrapped · al-Muzzammil · سورة المزمل · 20 ayahs

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

O you wrapped in garments.

Stand in prayer through the night, all but a little.

Half of it, or reduce from it a little.

Or add to it, and recite the Quran in measured recitation.

We will cast upon you a weighty word.

Truly the rising by night is firmer in tread and more upright in speech.

You have in the day prolonged occupation.

Remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him completely.

Lord of the east and the west—there is no god but Him—so take Him as your Guardian.

Be patient over what they say, and part from them graciously.

Leave Me with the deniers, those of luxury, and give them a brief respite.

With Us are shackles and a blazing fire.

And food that chokes and a painful punishment.

On the Day the earth and the mountains quake, and the mountains become a heap of shifting sand.

We have sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger.

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a devastating grip.

How will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, against a Day that turns children gray-haired?

The sky will split apart by it. His promise is always fulfilled.

This is a reminder. So whoever wills, let him take a path to his Lord.

Your Lord knows that you stand nearly two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or a third of it, as does a group of those with you. God measures the night and the day. He knew that you would never keep exact count of it, so He turned to you in mercy. So recite what is easy for you of the Quran. He knew that some of you will be sick, and others traveling through the land seeking God’s bounty, and others fighting in God’s cause. So recite what is easy of it, and establish the prayer and give the charity and lend God a good loan. Whatever good you send ahead for yourselves, you will find it with God—better and greater in reward. And seek God’s forgiveness. Truly God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
