لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
I swear by the Day of Resurrection.
Resurrection · al-Qiyamah · سورة القيامة · 40 ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ
And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.
أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَلَّنْ نَجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ
Does man think We will not reassemble his bones?
بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ
Yes — We are able to restore even his fingertips.
بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنْسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ
But man wants to go on sinning ahead of him.
يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ
He asks, “When is the Day of Resurrection?”
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ
So when the sight is dazed.
وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ
And the moon is eclipsed.
وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ
And the sun and the moon are joined together.
يَقُولُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ
Man will say on that Day, “Where is the escape?”
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
No! There is no refuge.
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ
To your Lord on that Day is the final settlement.
يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
Man is informed on that Day of what he sent ahead and left behind.
بَلِ الْإِنْسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ
Rather, man is a witness against himself.
وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ
Even if he throws up his excuses.
لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ
Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it.
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ
Upon Us is its collection and its recitation.
فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ
So when We recite it, follow its recitation.
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ
Then upon Us is its explanation.
كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ
No! But you love the immediate.
وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ
And neglect the Hereafter.
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاضِرَةٌ
Faces on that Day will be radiant.
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ
Looking at their Lord.
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ
And faces on that Day will be grim.
تَظُنُّ أَنْ يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ
Expecting that a back-breaking calamity will be done to them.
كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ
No! When it reaches the collarbones.
وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ
And it is said, “Who is a healer?”
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ
And he knows that it is the parting.
وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ
And leg is entwined with leg.
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ
To your Lord on that Day is the driving.
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
He neither affirmed the truth nor prayed.
وَلَٰكِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
But he denied and turned away.
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ
Then he went to his family, strutting.
أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
Woe to you, and woe!
ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
Then woe to you, and woe!
أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنْ يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
Does man think he will be left neglected?
أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِنْ مَنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ
Was he not a drop of emitted semen?
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Then he became a clinging clot, and He created and proportioned.
فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ
And made from him the two mates — the male and the female.
أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ
Is not that One Capable of giving life to the dead?
