Az-Zumar 39:56

So that a soul may not say, “How sorry I am, for having neglected my duty to Allah, and for having been of the scoffers.”

So that a soul may not say, “How sorry I am, for having neglected my duty to God, and for having been of the scoffers.”

Then someone might sadly say, "Oh, how sorry I am for not obeying Allah! I was one of those who laughed and made fun."

Otherwise, a soul might sadly say, "How terrible! I wasted my chance to obey Allah, and I was one of those who laughed at the truth."

Lest a soul should say, “O my regret over what I neglected regarding God, and I was indeed among the mockers!”

So that a soul may not say, “How sorry I am, for having neglected my duty to Allah, and for having been of the scoffers.”

So that a soul may not say, “How sorry I am, for having neglected my duty to God, and for having been of the scoffers.”

Lest a soul should say,1355 "Oh, [how great is] my regret over what I neglected in regard to Allāh and that I was among the mockers."

Lest a person should say: "Alas, my grief that I was undutiful to Allâh (i.e. I have not done what Allâh has ordered me to do), and I was indeed among those who mocked [at the truth! i.e. Lâ ilâha illallâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh), the Qur’ân, and Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and at the faithful believers]

lest someone should say1, “Woe to me for neglecting my duties towards Allah and for being among those who mocked [the truth]”;

"Lest the soul should (then) say: 'Ah! Woe is me!- In that I neglected (my duty) towards Allah, and was but among those who mocked!'-

Lest any soul should say: Alas, my grief that I was unmindful of Allah, and I was indeed among the scoffers!

lest anyone should say, "Alas for me, for having neglected what is due to God, and having been one of those who scoffed!"

Lest a person should say: “Alas for me for neglecting my duty towards Allah and for being among those that scoffed”;

Lest anyone should say, ‘Alas for my negligence in the vicinage of Allah! Indeed I was among those who ridiculed.’
