Had the people of the towns believed and turned righteous, We would have opened for them the blessings of the heaven and the earth; but they rejected the truth, so We seized them by what they were doing.

Had the people of the towns believed and turned righteous, We would have opened for them the blessings of the heaven and the earth; but they rejected the truth, so We seized them by what they were doing.
If the people of the towns had believed and been careful to obey Allah, We would have opened blessings for them from the sky and the earth. But they didn't believe, so We punished them for what they did.
If only the people of these towns had believed and been mindful of Allah, We would have opened blessings for them from heaven and earth. But they rejected the truth, so We punished them for what they earned.
