1O people, be mindful of your Lord, who created you from a single soul and created from it its mate and spread from them both many men and women. And be mindful of God, in whose name you appeal to one another, and of family ties. Truly, God is ever a Watcher over you.
2Give the orphans their wealth, and do not exchange the bad for the good, and do not consume their wealth into your own. It is surely a great sin.
3If you fear you cannot deal justly with the orphans, then marry what pleases you of women — two, three, or four. But if you fear you will not be fair, then one, or what your right hands possess. That is more likely to keep you from injustice.
4Give women their bridal gifts freely. But if they willingly give up any part of it to you, then consume it with pleasure and ease.
5Do not give the feeble-minded your wealth that God has made a means of support for you. Provide for them from it, clothe them, and speak to them with kind words.
6Test the orphans until they reach the age of marriage. If you find sound judgment in them, hand over their wealth to them. Do not consume it wastefully or in haste before they grow up. Whoever is wealthy should abstain, and whoever is poor may consume reasonably. When you hand over their wealth to them, have it witnessed. And God suffices as a Reckoner.
7For men is a share of what parents and close relatives leave behind, and for women is a share of what parents and close relatives leave behind — whether little or much — an obligated share.
8When relatives, orphans, and the needy are present at the division, provide for them from it and speak to them with kind words.
9Let those fear who, had they left behind weak offspring, would worry for them. So let them be mindful of God and speak words of justice.
10Those who consume the wealth of orphans unjustly are only filling their bellies with fire, and they will burn in a Blaze.
11God instructs you regarding your children: the male receives the share of two females. If they are women, more than two, they receive two-thirds of what he left. If she is one, she receives half. For each of his parents, a sixth of what he left, if he had a child. If he had no child and his parents inherit from him, then his mother receives a third. If he had siblings, then his mother receives a sixth — after any bequest he made or debt. Your fathers and your children — you do not know which of them is closer to you in benefit. An obligation from God. Truly, God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
12You receive half of what your wives left, if they had no child. If they had a child, you receive a fourth of what they left — after any bequest they made or debt. They receive a fourth of what you left, if you had no child. If you had a child, they receive an eighth of what you left — after any bequest you made or debt. If a man or woman is inherited from with no direct heir, and he has a brother or sister, each of them receives a sixth. If they are more than that, they share in a third — after any bequest made or debt, without causing harm. A directive from God. God is All-Knowing, All-Forbearing.
13These are God’s limits. Whoever obeys God and His Messenger, He will admit him into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, dwelling therein forever. That is the supreme triumph.
14Whoever disobeys God and His Messenger and oversteps His limits, He will admit him into a Fire, dwelling therein forever, and for him is a humiliating punishment.
15Those of your women who commit indecency — call four witnesses from among you against them. If they testify, then confine them to their houses until death takes them or God makes a way for them.
16The two among you who commit it — punish them both. But if they repent and reform, then leave them alone. Truly, God is ever Accepting of repentance, Most Merciful.
17Repentance with God is only for those who do evil in ignorance and then repent soon after — those are the ones God accepts in repentance. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
18But repentance is not for those who go on doing evil until, when death comes upon one of them, he says, “I repent now,” nor for those who die as disbelievers. For those, We have prepared a painful punishment.
19O you who believe, it is not lawful for you to inherit women against their will. Do not pressure them to take back part of what you gave them, unless they commit a clear indecency. Live with them in kindness. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike something in which God places much good.
20If you wish to replace one wife with another and you have given one of them a fortune, take nothing back from it. Would you take it through slander and open sin?
21How could you take it back when you have been intimate with one another, and they have taken from you a solemn covenant?
22Do not marry women your fathers married — except what has already passed. It was indeed an indecency, a hateful thing, and a wretched path.
23Forbidden to you are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, your brother’s daughters, your sister’s daughters, your mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives’ mothers, your stepdaughters under your care from wives you have consummated marriage with — but if you have not consummated with them, there is no blame on you — and the wives of your sons from your own loins, and marrying two sisters at the same time, except what has already passed. Truly God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
24And married women, except those your right hands possess. This is God’s decree upon you. Lawful to you is all beyond that, provided you seek them with your wealth in marriage, not in fornication. Whatever you have enjoyed from them, give them their due compensation as an obligation. There is no blame on you in whatever you mutually agree upon after the obligation. Truly God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
25Whoever among you cannot afford to marry free believing women, then from your believing slave girls that your right hands possess — and God knows best about your faith; you are of one another — so marry them with their families’ permission and give them their due compensation fairly, as chaste women, not fornicators or those who take secret lovers. Once they are married, if they commit an indecency, their punishment is half that of free women. That is for whoever among you fears falling into sin. But that you be patient is better for you. God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
26God wants to make things clear to you, guide you to the ways of those before you, and turn to you in mercy. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
27God wants to turn to you in mercy, but those who follow their desires want you to deviate greatly.
28God wants to lighten your burden, for the human being was created weak.
29O you who believe, do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly, unless it is through trade by mutual consent among you. And do not kill yourselves. Truly, God is ever Merciful to you.
30Whoever does that out of aggression and injustice, We will burn him in a Fire. And that is easy for God.
31If you avoid the major sins you are forbidden from, We will absolve your lesser offenses and admit you into a noble entrance.
32Do not covet what God has favored some of you with over others. Men have a share of what they have earned, and women have a share of what they have earned. Ask God for His bounty. Surely, God is ever All-Knowing of all things.
33For each We have appointed heirs to what parents and close relatives leave behind. And those with whom your oaths have made a pledge, give them their share. Truly, God is ever a Witness over all things.
34Men are caretakers of women, by what God has favored some of them over others and by what they spend of their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in absence what God has guarded. As for those whose defiance you fear, admonish them, forsake them in bed, and strike them. But if they obey you, seek no way against them. Surely, God is ever Most High, Most Great.
35If you fear a rift between the two of them, send an arbiter from his family and an arbiter from her family. If they both desire reconciliation, God will bring them into accord. Truly, God is ever All-Knowing, All-Aware.
36Worship God and associate nothing with Him. Show kindness to parents, to relatives, to orphans, to the needy, to the near neighbor, to the distant neighbor, to the companion at your side, to the traveler, and to those your right hands possess. Truly, God does not love anyone arrogant and boastful.
37Those who are stingy and urge others to be stingy and conceal what God has given them of His bounty — We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
38And those who spend their wealth to be seen by people and believe neither in God nor in the Last Day. Whoever has Satan as a companion — what a wretched companion!
39What would it have cost them to believe in God and the Last Day and spend from what God has provided them? God is All-Knowing of them.
40God does not wrong anyone by even an atom’s weight. If it is a good deed, He multiplies it and grants from Himself a great reward.
41So how will it be when We bring a witness from every nation and bring you as a witness over these?
42On that Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish the earth were leveled over them, and they will not be able to hide a single word from God.
43O you who believe, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying, nor while in a state of major impurity — unless you are passing through — until you have bathed. If you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you has come from relieving himself, or you have touched women, and you find no water, then turn to clean earth and wipe your faces and your hands. Truly, God is Ever-Pardoning, All-Forgiving.
44Have you not seen those who were given a share of the Scripture? They purchase misguidance and want you to stray from the path.
45God knows best your enemies. God suffices as a Protector, and God suffices as a Helper.
46Among those who are Jewish, some distort words from their places and say, “We hear and we disobey,” and “Hear, may you not be heard,” and “Ra’ina,” twisting with their tongues and slandering the religion. Had they said, “We hear and we obey,” and “Hear,” and “Look upon us,” it would have been better for them and more upright. But God cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except a few.
47O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down, confirming what is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them backward, or curse them as We cursed the people of the Sabbath. God’s command is always carried out.
48Truly, God does not forgive that partners be ascribed to Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whoever He wills. Whoever ascribes partners to God has fabricated a tremendous sin.
49Have you not seen those who declare themselves pure? Rather, God purifies whom He wills, and they will not be wronged by so much as a thread.
50Look how they fabricate lies against God. That alone suffices as a clear sin.
51Have you not seen those who were given a share of the Scripture? They believe in idols and false gods and say of those who disbelieve, “These are more rightly guided than the believers in path.”
52Those are the ones God has cursed, and whoever God curses, you will never find for him a helper.
53Or do they have a share of sovereignty? Then they would not give people even the speck on a date stone.
54Or do they envy people for what God has given them of His bounty? We gave the family of Abraham the Scripture and wisdom, and We gave them a great kingdom.
55Some of them believed in it, and some of them turned away from it. Hell suffices as a blaze.
56Those who disbelieve in Our signs — We will roast them in a Fire. Every time their skins are burned through, We will replace them with other skins so they may taste the punishment. Truly, God is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
57Those who believe and do righteous deeds — We will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, dwelling therein forever. For them therein are purified spouses, and We will admit them into deep, cool shade.
58God commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners, and when you judge between people, to judge with justice. Truly, how excellent is what God instructs you with. God is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
59O you who believe, obey God and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. If you disagree over anything, refer it to God and the Messenger, if you believe in God and the Last Day. That is better and more sound in outcome.
60Have you not seen those who claim they believe in what was sent down to you and what was sent down before you, yet they wish to seek judgment from false authority, though they were commanded to reject it? Satan wants to lead them far astray.
61When they are told, “Come to what God has sent down and to the Messenger,” you see the hypocrites turning away from you in utter aversion.
62So how will it be when disaster strikes them because of what their own hands have done, then they come to you swearing by God, “We intended nothing but goodness and reconciliation”?
63Those are the ones whose hearts God knows well. So turn away from them, admonish them, and speak to them words that cut deep into their souls.
64We never sent a messenger except to be obeyed by God’s leave. If only, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you and asked God’s forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found God Ever-Relenting, Most Merciful.
65But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge in their disputes, then find no resistance in themselves toward your verdict, and submit fully.
66Had We prescribed for them, “Kill yourselves” or “Leave your homes,” only a few of them would have done it. Yet had they done what they were advised to do, it would have been better for them and more strengthening.
67And then We would have given them from Us a great reward.
68And We would have guided them to a straight path.
69Whoever obeys God and the Messenger — they are with those God has blessed: the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. What excellent companions they are!
70That is the bounty of God, and God suffices as All-Knowing.
71O you who believe, take your precautions, then march out in detachments or march out all together.
72Among you is he who will surely lag behind. If a calamity strikes you, he says, “God has blessed me, since I was not present with them.”
73But if a bounty from God comes to you, he will surely say — as if there were no affection between you and him — “If only I had been with them, I would have won a great triumph!”
74So let those who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in God’s cause. Whoever fights in God’s cause and is killed or prevails — We will grant him a great reward.
75What is wrong with you that you do not fight in God’s cause and for the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, “Our Lord, take us out of this town whose people are oppressors, and appoint for us from Yourself a protector, and appoint for us from Yourself a helper”?
76Those who believe fight in God’s cause, and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of false gods. So fight the allies of Satan. Truly, Satan’s scheming is weak.
77Have you not seen those who were told, “Restrain your hands, establish the prayer, and give charity”? But when fighting was prescribed for them, a group of them feared people as they fear God — or with even greater fear — and said, “Our Lord, why have You prescribed fighting for us? If only You had granted us a brief reprieve!” Say, “The enjoyment of this world is little, and the Hereafter is better for the God-conscious. You will not be wronged by so much as a thread.”
78Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you are in fortified towers. If something good befalls them, they say, “This is from God,” but if something bad befalls them, they say, “This is from you.” Say, “All is from God.” What is wrong with these people that they can hardly understand a word?
79Whatever good befalls you is from God, and whatever bad befalls you is from yourself. We have sent you to mankind as a messenger, and God suffices as a witness.
80Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed God. And whoever turns away — We have not sent you as a guardian over them.
81They say, “Obedience,” but when they leave your presence, a group of them plots by night something other than what you say. God records what they plot by night. So turn away from them and put your trust in God. God is sufficient as a Guardian.
82Do they not reflect on the Quran? Had it been from anyone other than God, they would have found in it much contradiction.
83When news of security or fear reaches them, they spread it. Had they referred it to the Messenger and to those in authority among them, those who can draw conclusions among them would have known it. Were it not for God’s grace upon you and His mercy, you would have followed Satan, all but a few.
84So fight in God’s cause — you are not responsible except for yourself — and urge on the believers. Perhaps God will restrain the might of those who disbelieve. God is greater in might and greater in punishment.
85Whoever intercedes with a good intercession will have a share of it, and whoever intercedes with an evil intercession will bear a portion of it. God is a Keeper over all things.
86When you are greeted with a greeting, greet back with something better or return it. Truly, God keeps account of all things.
87God — there is no god but Him. He will surely gather you on the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. And who is more truthful in speech than God?
88What is wrong with you that you are two groups regarding the hypocrites, when God has cast them back for what they earned? Do you want to guide those whom God has led astray? Whoever God leads astray — you will never find a way for him.
89They wish you would disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so you would be alike. So do not take allies from among them until they emigrate in God’s cause. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and do not take from among them any ally or helper.
90Except those who reach a people between whom and you there is a treaty, or those who come to you with their hearts shrinking from fighting you or fighting their own people. Had God willed, He would have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. So if they withdraw from you and do not fight you and offer you peace, then God has given you no way against them.
91You will find others who want to be safe from you and safe from their own people. Every time they are returned to temptation, they plunge back into it. So if they do not withdraw from you, offer you peace, and restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you encounter them. Against those, We have given you clear authority.
92It is not for a believer to kill a believer except by mistake. Whoever kills a believer by mistake must free a believing slave and pay blood money to the victim’s family, unless they waive it as charity. If the victim belonged to a people hostile to you but was himself a believer, then the freeing of a believing slave. If he belonged to a people with whom you have a treaty, then blood money delivered to his family and the freeing of a believing slave. Whoever cannot find the means, then fasting for two consecutive months — a repentance from God. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
93Whoever kills a believer deliberately, his recompense is Hell, abiding in it forever. God’s wrath is upon him, He has cursed him, and He has prepared for him a tremendous punishment.
94O you who believe, when you go out in God’s cause, verify carefully. Do not say to anyone who offers you peace, “You are not a believer,” seeking the fleeting gains of this worldly life — with God are abundant spoils. You yourselves were like that before, then God bestowed His favor upon you. So verify carefully. Truly God is fully Aware of what you do.
95Not equal are those believers who sit back — other than those with disabilities — and those who strive in God’s cause with their wealth and their lives. God has favored those who strive with their wealth and their lives over those who sit back by a degree. To each God has promised the best reward. Yet God has favored those who strive over those who sit back with a tremendous reward.
96Degrees from Him, and forgiveness, and mercy. God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
97Those whose souls the angels take while they were wronging themselves — they say, “What state were you in?” They reply, “We were oppressed in the land.” They say, “Was God’s earth not spacious enough for you to emigrate in it?” Their refuge is Hell — and what a wretched destination!
98Except the truly helpless among men, women, and children who have no means and find no way.
99Those — God may well pardon them. God is All-Pardoning, All-Forgiving.
100Whoever emigrates in God’s cause will find on the earth many a refuge and abundance. Whoever leaves his home emigrating to God and His Messenger, then death overtakes him, his reward has already fallen upon God. God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
101When you travel through the land, there is no blame on you if you shorten the prayer, if you fear that those who disbelieve may attack you. Truly, the disbelievers have always been a clear enemy to you.
102When you are among them and lead them in prayer, let a group of them stand with you and let them carry their weapons. When they have prostrated, let them move to the rear, and let another group who has not yet prayed come and pray with you, and let them take their precautions and their weapons. Those who disbelieve wish you would neglect your weapons and your supplies so they could sweep down on you in a single assault. There is no blame on you if you are troubled by rain or are ill to set down your weapons, but take your precautions. God has prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
103When you have finished the prayer, remember God standing, sitting, and lying on your sides. Then when you are secure, establish the prayer. Surely the prayer has been a timed obligation upon the believers.
104Do not weaken in pursuing the enemy. If you suffer, they too suffer as you suffer, but you hope from God what they do not hope. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
105We have sent down the Book to you in truth so that you may judge between people by what God has shown you. Do not be an advocate for the treacherous.
106Seek God’s forgiveness. God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
107Do not argue on behalf of those who betray themselves. God does not love anyone who is a persistent traitor, steeped in sin.
108They hide from people but do not hide from God, and He is with them when they plot by night with words He does not approve. God encompasses everything they do.
109Here you are, arguing on their behalf in the life of this world — but who will argue with God on their behalf on the Day of Resurrection, or who will be their guardian?
110Whoever does evil or wrongs himself then seeks God’s forgiveness will find God All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
111Whoever earns a sin earns it only against himself. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
112Whoever earns a fault or a sin then casts it upon an innocent person has burdened himself with slander and a clear sin.
113Were it not for God’s grace upon you and His mercy, a group of them would have resolved to lead you astray. But they lead astray none but themselves, and they cannot harm you in the least. God has sent down to you the Book and wisdom and taught you what you did not know. God’s grace upon you has been immense.
114There is no good in most of their private conversations, except for whoever commands charity, or kindness, or reconciliation between people. Whoever does that seeking God’s pleasure, We will give him a great reward.
115Whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will turn him to what he has turned to and burn him in Hell — what a wretched destination!
116Truly, God does not forgive that partners be ascribed to Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whoever He wills. Whoever ascribes partners to God has strayed far, far astray.
117They call upon none besides Him but females, and they call upon none but a rebellious Satan.
118God cursed him. And he said, “I will surely take from Your servants an appointed share.
119I will surely lead them astray, I will surely fill them with false hopes, I will surely command them and they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will surely command them and they will alter God’s creation.” Whoever takes Satan as a protector instead of God has suffered a clear loss.
120He makes them promises and fills them with hopes, but Satan promises them nothing but delusion.
121Those — their refuge is Hell, and they will find no escape from it.
122But those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, dwelling there forever. God’s promise is true — and who is more truthful in word than God?
123It is not by your wishful thinking, nor by the wishful thinking of the People of the Book. Whoever does evil will be repaid for it, and he will find for himself no protector or helper besides God.
124Whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer — those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged even by the speck on a date stone.
125Who is better in faith than one who submits his face to God while doing good and follows the creed of Abraham, a monotheist? And God took Abraham as a close friend.
126To God belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. And God encompasses all things.
127They ask you for a ruling concerning women. Say, “God gives you a ruling concerning them, and what is recited to you in the Book concerning orphan women to whom you do not give what is prescribed for them yet desire to marry them, and concerning the oppressed among children, and that you stand for orphans with justice.” Whatever good you do, God is truly All-Knowing of it.
128If a woman fears ill-treatment or neglect from her husband, there is no blame on them if they reach a settlement between themselves. Settlement is better. Souls are prone to greed. If you do good and are mindful, then God is truly All-Aware of what you do.
129You will never be able to treat women with perfect equality, no matter how hard you try. So do not incline entirely toward one, leaving the other like one suspended. If you make amends and are mindful, then God is truly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
130If they separate, God will enrich each from His abundance. God is All-Encompassing, All-Wise.
131To God belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. We certainly charged those who were given the Book before you, and you as well, to be mindful of God. If you disbelieve, then to God belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. God is Self-Sufficient, All-Praiseworthy.
132To God belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. God suffices as a Guardian.
133If He wills, He can remove you, O people, and bring others in your place. God is fully Capable of that.
134Whoever desires the reward of this world — with God is the reward of this world and the Hereafter. God is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
135O you who believe, be steadfast upholders of justice, witnesses for God, even if against yourselves, your parents, or your relatives. Whether rich or poor, God has more right over both. So do not follow desire, lest you swerve from justice. If you distort or turn away, God is fully aware of what you do.
136O you who believe, believe in God and His Messenger, and the Book He sent down upon His Messenger, and the Book He sent down before. Whoever disbelieves in God, His angels, His Books, His messengers, and the Last Day has strayed far astray.
137Those who believed, then disbelieved, then believed, then disbelieved, then grew in disbelief—God will not forgive them, nor will He guide them to a way.
138Give the hypocrites the news that a painful punishment awaits them.
139Those who take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers—do they seek power with them? Truly, all power belongs to God.
140He has already sent down to you in the Book that when you hear God’s verses being denied and mocked, do not sit with them until they turn to another topic. Otherwise, you would be just like them. God will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers in Hell, all together.
141Those who lie in wait for you—if you gain a victory from God, they say, “Were we not with you?” But if the disbelievers have a share, they say, “Did we not have the upper hand over you and protect you from the believers?” God will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection, and God will never grant the disbelievers a way over the believers.
142The hypocrites try to deceive God, but He is the one deceiving them. When they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing off before people, and they remember God only little.
143Wavering between this and that—neither with these nor with those. Whoever God leads astray, you will never find a way for him.
144O you who believe, do not take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Do you want to give God a clear case against you?
145The hypocrites will be in the lowest depth of the Fire, and you will never find a helper for them.
146Except those who repent, reform, hold fast to God, and devote their religion sincerely to God—those are with the believers. And God will give the believers a great reward.
147What would God gain by punishing you if you are grateful and believe? God is ever Appreciative, All-Knowing.
148God does not love the public utterance of evil speech, except by one who has been wronged. God is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
149If you show goodness, or conceal it, or pardon an evil, then truly God is All-Pardoning, All-Powerful.
150Those who deny God and His messengers and wish to separate between God and His messengers, saying, “We believe in some and deny others,” and wish to take a path in between.
151Those are the true disbelievers. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.
152But those who believe in God and His messengers and make no distinction between any of them—those He will give their rewards. God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
153The People of the Book ask you to bring down upon them a book from the sky. They asked Moses for even greater than that, saying, “Show us God openly,” so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf after the clear proofs had come to them, yet We pardoned them for that. And We gave Moses clear authority.
154And We raised the mountain over them for their covenant, and We said to them, “Enter the gate in prostration,” and We said to them, “Do not transgress on the Sabbath.” And We took from them a solemn covenant.
155So for their breaking of their covenant, their denial of God’s verses, their killing of the prophets without right, and their saying, “Our hearts are sealed”—rather, God sealed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except a few.
156And for their disbelief and their uttering against Mary a monstrous slander.
157And their saying, “We killed the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the messenger of God.” They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it was made to appear so to them. Those who differed over him are truly in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it, only the following of conjecture. They certainly did not kill him.
158Rather, God raised him to Himself. God is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
159There is none among the People of the Book but will surely believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.
160So for the wrongdoing of those who are Jews, We forbade them good things that had been permitted to them, and for their frequent obstruction of God’s path.
161And their taking of usury though they had been forbidden it, and their consuming of people’s wealth through falsehood. And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.
162But those among them who are firmly grounded in knowledge, and the believers—they believe in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down before you—and those who establish prayer, and those who give charity, and those who believe in God and the Last Day—those We will give a great reward.
163We revealed to you just as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Tribes, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon. And We gave David the Psalms.
164Messengers We have told you about before, and messengers We have not told you about. And God spoke to Moses directly.
165Messengers bearing good news and warning, so that people would have no argument against God after the messengers. God is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
166But God bears witness to what He sent down to you — He sent it down with His knowledge — and the angels bear witness. God suffices as a Witness.
167Truly, those who disbelieved and turned others from God’s path have strayed far astray.
168Those who disbelieved and wronged — God would never forgive them or guide them to any path.
169Except the path of Hell, dwelling in it forever. And that is easy for God.
170O people, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe — it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, then to God belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
171O People of the Book, do not go to excess in your religion, and do not say about God anything but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of God and His word, which He cast to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say, “Three.” Stop — it is better for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him that He should have a child. To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. God is sufficient as a Guardian.
172The Messiah would never disdain to be a servant of God, nor would the angels nearest to Him. Whoever disdains His worship and grows arrogant — He will gather them all to Him.
173As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will pay them their rewards in full and increase them from His grace. But as for those who disdained and grew arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they will find for themselves no protector or helper besides God.
174O humanity, a proof has come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light.
175As for those who believed in God and held fast to Him, He will admit them into mercy from Him and grace, and He will guide them to Him on a straight path.
176They ask you for a ruling. Say, “God gives you a ruling concerning the person with no parents or children. If a man dies leaving no child but has a sister, she receives half of what he left. And he inherits from her if she has no child. If there are two sisters, they receive two-thirds of what he left. And if they are siblings, men and women, then the male receives the share of two females.” God makes this clear to you so that you do not go astray. God is All-Knowing of all things.
