وَالطُّورِ
By the Mount.
The Mount · at-Tur · سورة الطور · 49 ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
وَكِتَابٍ مَسْطُورٍ
And a Book inscribed.
فِي رَقٍّ مَنْشُورٍ
On parchment unrolled.
وَالْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ
And the Frequented House.
وَالسَّقْفِ الْمَرْفُوعِ
And the raised canopy.
وَالْبَحْرِ الْمَسْجُورِ
And the surging sea.
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَاقِعٌ
Your Lord’s punishment is sure to fall.
مَا لَهُ مِنْ دَافِعٍ
Nothing can avert it.
يَوْمَ تَمُورُ السَّمَاءُ مَوْرًا
On the Day the sky churns violently.
وَتَسِيرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا
And the mountains drift away.
فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
So woe that Day to the deniers.
الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ
Who amuse themselves in idle talk.
يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا
The Day they are shoved into the Fire of Hell, shoved hard.
هَٰذِهِ النَّارُ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ
“This is the Fire you used to deny.
أَفَسِحْرٌ هَٰذَا أَمْ أَنْتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
Is this sorcery, or do you not see?
اصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُوا أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Burn in it — be patient or impatient, it is all the same to you. You are only repaid for what you used to do.”
إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ
Truly, the reverent are in gardens and bliss.
فَاكِهِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ
Delighting in what their Lord has given them, and their Lord has shielded them from the punishment of the Blaze.
كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
“Eat and drink with pleasure for what you used to do.”
مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ عِينٍ
Reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We paired them with wide-eyed maidens.
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُمْ بِإِيمَانٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَا أَلَتْنَاهُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ
Those who believed, and whose descendants followed them in faith — We joined their descendants with them and did not diminish anything of their deeds. Every person is held in pledge for what he earned.
وَأَمْدَدْنَاهُمْ بِفَاكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ
And We supplied them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire.
يَتَنَازَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ
They pass among themselves a cup — no idle talk in it and no sin.
وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَكْنُونٌ
And circling among them are boys of their own, like hidden pearls.
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ
They turned to one another, asking.
قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِي أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ
They said, “We used to live among our families in fear.
فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَانَا عَذَابَ السَّمُومِ
So God graced us and shielded us from the punishment of the scorching wind.
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِنْ قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْبَرُّ الرَّحِيمُ
We used to call upon Him before. Truly, He is the Most Kind, the Most Merciful.”
فَذَكِّرْ فَمَا أَنْتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ
So remind, for by your Lord’s grace you are no soothsayer and no madman.
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِهِ رَيْبَ الْمَنُونِ
Or do they say, “A poet — we await for him the calamity of time”?
قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا فَإِنِّي مَعَكُمْ مِنَ الْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ
Say, “Wait, for I too am waiting with you.”
أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَامُهُمْ بِهَٰذَا ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ
Or do their minds command them to this, or are they a transgressing people?
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ ۚ بَلْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
Or do they say, “He fabricated it”? Rather, they do not believe.
فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَدِيثٍ مِثْلِهِ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ
Then let them produce a discourse like it, if they are truthful.
أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ
Or were they created from nothing, or are they the creators?
أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۚ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no certainty.
أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ
Or do they possess your Lord’s treasuries, or are they in control?
أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ
Or do they have a ladder on which they listen? Then let their listener bring a clear authority.
أَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُونَ
Or does He have daughters while you have sons?
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُمْ مِنْ مَغْرَمٍ مُثْقَلُونَ
Or do you ask them for a payment, so they are burdened with debt?
أَمْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
Or do they have the unseen, and they write it down?
أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا هُمُ الْمَكِيدُونَ
Or do they intend a plot? It is the disbelievers who are the ones entrapped.
أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَٰهٌ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
Or do they have a god other than God? Glory be to God, far above what they associate with Him.
وَإِنْ يَرَوْا كِسْفًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا سَحَابٌ مَرْكُومٌ
If they saw a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, “Piled-up clouds.”
فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ
So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck down.
يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ
A Day when their scheming will avail them nothing, and they will not be helped.
وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
And for those who wronged, there is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.
وَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ
Be patient for your Lord’s judgment, for you are under Our watchful eyes. And glorify your Lord with praise when you rise.
وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَارَ النُّجُومِ
And in the night glorify Him, and at the fading of the stars.
