The Snatchers · an-Nazi'at · سورة النازعات · 46 ayahs

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

By those who wrench violently.

By those who draw out swiftly.

By those who glide smoothly.

Then those who race ahead.

Then those who govern all affairs.

The Day the quaking quakes.

Followed by the subsequent one.

Hearts that Day will be pounding.

Their eyes cast down.

They say, “Will we really be returned to our former state?

Even when we are decayed bones?”

They say, “That, then, would be a losing return!”

It will be but a single shout.

And at once they are on the open plain.

Has the story of Moses reached you?

When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa.

“Go to Pharaoh—he has transgressed.

And say, ‘Would you purify yourself?

And I will guide you to your Lord so that you may fear Him.’”

So he showed him the greatest sign.

But he denied and disobeyed.

Then he turned away, striving.

And gathered and proclaimed.

And said, “I am your lord, the most high!”

So God seized him with the punishment of the Hereafter and the first life.

Surely in that is a lesson for whoever fears.

Are you harder to create or the sky? He built it.

He raised its canopy and perfected it.

He darkened its night and brought out its morning light.

And the earth after that He spread it out.

He brought out from it its water and its pasture.

And the mountains He anchored firmly.

A provision for you and your livestock.

But when the Great Catastrophe arrives.

The Day man remembers what he strove for.

And Hellfire is laid bare for all to see.

As for whoever transgressed.

And preferred the life of this world.

Then Hellfire will be the refuge.

But as for whoever feared standing before his Lord and restrained the soul from desire.

Then Paradise will be the refuge.

They ask you about the Hour: when will it arrive?

What do you have to do with mentioning it?

To your Lord is its final end.

You are only a warner for those who fear it.

The Day they see it, it will be as though they had lingered only an evening or its morning.
