وَيْلٌ لِلْمُطَفِّفِينَ
Woe to those who give short measure.
The Defrauders · al-Mutaffifin · سورة المطففين · 36 ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ
Who, when they take a measure from people, take it in full.
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَوْ وَزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ
But when they measure for them or weigh for them, give less.
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُمْ مَبْعُوثُونَ
Do those not think that they will be raised.
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
For a tremendous Day.
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
The Day mankind will stand before the Lord of all worlds?
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ
No! Truly the record of the wicked is in Sijjin.
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ
And what will make you know what Sijjin is?
كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ
A written record.
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the deniers.
الَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
Who deny the Day of Judgment.
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
None denies it but every sinful transgressor.
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “Tales of the ancients!”
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ
No! Rather, what they used to earn has rusted over their hearts.
كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَمَحْجُوبُونَ
No! Surely they will be veiled from their Lord on that Day.
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ
Then they will burn in the Blazing Fire.
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Then they are told, “This is what you used to deny.”
كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ
No! Truly the record of the righteous is in Illiyyun.
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ
And what will make you know what Illiyyun is?
كِتَابٌ مَرْقُومٌ
A written record.
يَشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ
The ones brought near witness it.
إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ
Surely the righteous are in bliss.
عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ
On couches, gazing.
تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ
You recognize in their faces the radiance of bliss.
يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِيقٍ مَخْتُومٍ
They are given to drink from a sealed, pure wine.
خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ
Its seal is musk. So let the competitors compete for this.
وَمِزَاجُهُ مِنْ تَسْنِيمٍ
Its mixture is from Tasnim.
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ
A spring from which the ones brought near drink.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ
Those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
When they passed by them, they would wink at one another.
وَإِذَا انْقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ
When they returned to their own people, they returned amused.
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ
When they saw them, they said, “These are surely astray.”
وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ
Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
So Today, those who believed laugh at the disbelievers.
عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ يَنْظُرُونَ
On couches, gazing.
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ
Have the disbelievers been repaid for what they used to do?
