إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ
When the sky splits open.
The Rupture · al-Inshiqaq · سورة الانشقاق · 25 ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
And heeds its Lord — as it must.
وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
And when the earth is stretched flat.
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ
And casts out what is within it and empties itself.
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ
And heeds its Lord — as it must.
يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنْسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ
O human being, you are toiling toward your Lord, a hard toiling, and you will meet Him.
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ
As for whoever is given his record in his right hand.
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
He will be given an easy reckoning.
وَيَنْقَلِبُ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
And will return to his people joyful.
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ
But as for whoever is given his record behind his back.
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا
He will cry out for destruction.
وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا
And burn in a blaze.
إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا
He used to be joyful among his people.
إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَنْ لَنْ يَحُورَ
He thought he would never return.
بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا
But yes! His Lord was ever Seeing him.
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ
So I swear by the twilight glow.
وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ
And the night and what it gathers.
وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ
And the moon when it grows full.
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَنْ طَبَقٍ
You will surely pass from stage to stage.
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
So what is wrong with them that they do not believe?
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩
And when the Quran is recited to them, they do not prostrate?
بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ
Rather, those who disbelieve deny.
وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ
And God knows best what they harbor.
فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
So give them tidings of a painful punishment.
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ
Except those who believe and do righteous deeds — for them is a reward unending.
