وَالسَّمَاءِ وَالطَّارِقِ
By the sky and the night-comer.
The Nightly Visitor · at-Tariq · سورة الطارق · 17 ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الطَّارِقُ
And what will make you realize what the night-comer is?
النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُ
The piercing star.
إِنْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ
Every soul has a guardian over it.
فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
So let man consider what he was created from.
خُلِقَ مِنْ مَاءٍ دَافِقٍ
He was created from a gushing fluid.
يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَائِبِ
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.
إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِ لَقَادِرٌ
Surely He is Able to bring him back.
يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَائِرُ
On the Day when secrets are laid bare.
فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ
Then he will have no strength and no helper.
وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الرَّجْعِ
By the sky with its recurring rain.
وَالْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ الصَّدْعِ
And the earth that splits open.
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ
It is truly a decisive word.
وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ
And it is no jest.
إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا
They are plotting a plot.
وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا
And I am plotting a plot.
فَمَهِّلِ الْكَافِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًا
So give the disbelievers respite — let them be, for a little while.
