وَالْفَجْرِ
By the dawn.
The Dawn · al-Fajr · سورة الفجر · 30 ayahs
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
By the ten nights.
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
By the even and the odd.
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
By the night as it passes.
هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ
Is there in that an oath for one of reason?
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad?
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
Iram of the pillars.
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
The like of whom were never created in the land?
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
And Thamud, who carved the rocks in the valley?
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
And Pharaoh of the stakes?
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Those who tyrannized throughout the land.
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ
And spread much corruption in it.
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
Truly your Lord is ever on the watch.
فَأَمَّا الْإِنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
As for man, when his Lord tests him and honors him and blesses him, he says, “My Lord has honored me.”
وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ
But when He tests him and restricts his provision, he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.”
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ
No! Rather, you do not honor the orphan.
وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
And you do not urge one another to feed the poor.
وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَمًّا
And you devour inheritance with greedy consumption.
وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
And you love wealth with an excessive love.
كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
No! When the earth is crushed, pounding upon pounding.
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
And your Lord comes, and the angels, rank upon rank.
وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
And Hell is brought near that Day—that Day man will remember, but how will remembrance help him?
يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
He will say, “If only I had sent ahead for my life!”
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ
On that Day, none will punish as His punishment.
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ
And none will bind as He binds.
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
O tranquil soul.
ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً
Return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing.
فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي
So enter among My servants.
وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي
And enter My Garden.
