وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا
By the sun and its morning brightness.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا
By the moon as it follows it.
وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا
By the day as it reveals it.
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا
By the night as it covers it.
وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا
By the sky and He who built it.
وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا
By the earth and He who spread it.
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا
By the soul and He who fashioned it.
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا
Then inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness.
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا
Truly he succeeds who purifies it.
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا
And truly he fails who corrupts it.
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا
Thamud denied in their transgression.
إِذِ انْبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا
When the most wretched of them rose up.
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا
God’s messenger said to them, “This is God’s she-camel, so let her drink.”
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا
But they denied him and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it.
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا
And He fears no consequence of it.
